2 PLACE

We are based in Balgownie, a small settlement just outside the historic village of Culross in The Kingdom of Fife. Much of the village is a Conservation area which was regenerated by the National Trust for Scotland in the 1970's. It is well worth a visit for the vivid ochre Culross Palace, the Abbey,

and the cobweb of narrow pends, cobbled streets, and paths. The Green Gate Gallery at the Mercat Cross, The Biscuit Café and Pottery, and the Red Lion offer opportunities for buying souvenirs, food

and drink while you are there.

Fife is often referred to in Scotland as "The Kingdom of Fife" because it was the seat of the Pictish King Fib. The Picts are presumed (because of Roman descriptions) to have decorated their bodies in intricate colourful patterns using dyes available to them at the time.
